Who was Lionel Hampton Lionel Hampton was one of the premier jazz percussionists and bandleader of the big band age. He was the first real jazz vibraphone player, and one of a small handful of important stylists on the instrument. "Hamp" ranks among the great names in jazz history, having worked with a who's who of jazz musicians, from Benny Goodman to Buddy Rich to Charlie Parker and Quincy Jones. |
